M3 Motorway Services

Planning a journey on the M3? It's worth knowing where you can stop, because the M3 has only two motorway service areas along its entire length, so a little planning goes a long way, especially if you're travelling with children, pets, or just need fuel and a break.

Fleet Services (between Junctions 4A and 5)

Fleet is the main pit stop on the M3, and the busier of the two. Operated by Welcome Break, Fleet Services sits between Junctions 4A and 5, within easy reach of London and the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort. You'll find the usual line-up of familiar names such as Costa, Burger King and WHSmith, and it has a notably leafy, pleasant setting if you fancy some fresh air on your break.

Fleet is a good choice for northbound drivers heading towards London and the M25, or as a first/last stop for those travelling to and from the south coast.

Winchester Services (between Junctions 8 and 9)

Winchester Services sits between Junctions 8 and 9, towards the southern half of the motorway. Operated by Moto, it's split into separate northbound and southbound sites, and is smaller than Fleet, but handy for a quick pit stop, clean facilities, and a coffee or bite to eat. The site is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is within easy driving distance of Winchester, Southampton and Portsmouth.

One quirk worth knowing: the two sides have no public connection between them, so make sure you pull into the correct one for your direction of travel.

A word of advice for M3 drivers

Because there are only these two service areas, there's a long stretch at the southern end of the M3, beyond Winchester towards Southampton and the M27, with no motorway services at all. If you're heading to the coast or the Isle of Wight ferries, it's wise to fuel up and take your break at Winchester rather than pressing on, as the next options are off-motorway once you've passed it. Likewise, at the northern end, Fleet is your last proper stop before the M25 and London.
